add this to all the recent Opponaut auto tragedies.
I bought this car for my little sister about 5 months ago ish. It's still under my name and i'm paying the full coverage until she gets out of high school in a couple months. She is fine, it was one of those (less than 2 mile an hour) careless impacts.
According to her, she was at a friends house and she was going to back out of the driveway....while still in D. She ended up rear ending her friend's truck. No damage to the Ranch Hand bumper on the truck but the Merc wasn't so fortunate as we can see. I noticed this in the morning because they know I would of flipped out last night.
So yeah, there goes my paycheck today :'( Thankfully OPPO and THRASH METAL has calmed me down almost immediately.

So looks like little sis is getting a weekend job...

You should buy the replacement parts for her, and then make her put them on herself. Decent way to help them learn to be careful with your things.
Sorry if it came off a little callous, I just get upset when someone gets into accidents with things that other people bought for them.

unfortunately no
but she'll pay for it >:]
![]() 02/28/2014 at 10:40 |

Very well understood buddy. Plus, employee discount (Mercedes dealer). It far exceeds my deductible so my insurance will cover it. She'll pay though lol trust me. She lacks discipline.

Hmm, well not bad at all then. Thankfully, she probably won't ever make that same mistake again though haha.
And that clip is awesome. I haven't watched South Park in years.

I promise I played that in my mind as I found out.

Damn, sorry for your loss
Hopefully that ovloV works out, I'm interested to see what kind of difference turbocharging the Xenon lights makes ;)
![]() 03/26/2014 at 14:21 |

Well does your little sister have a job? Or will she not be getting a new car?
![]() 03/26/2014 at 14:22 |

I did the same only worse to a W-123 diesel - twice! Patched it up both times. If you were prepared to do a lot yourself, it wouldn't actually be that hard to get fixed.
![]() 03/26/2014 at 14:25 |
|
thanks buddy. Well the Xenon bulb go out all the time but employee discount helps. They drive ok on turbo.

Even though insurance deems it total loss, does it make any sense to buy off of them to get repaired and resell? Obviously you need the cash to be able to do it but perhaps it's closer to net zero at the end than you think.
![]() 03/26/2014 at 14:26 |

she is my dad's princess. With what ever little money the insurance will give me, i'll get a Volvo and maintain it well here at my dealer. Dad is still the boss no matter how far you more or how old you are
![]() 03/26/2014 at 14:27 |
|
How is that a total loss??
![]() 03/26/2014 at 14:28 |
|
My first thought was "what am I looking at?" Then "oh... I like..." Here is some more.
![]() 03/26/2014 at 14:28 |
|
Are you sure it's a total loss? You could take the payout, buy it back from them and fix it yourself.
Hell, I wouldn't have even contacted insurance. It's just an un-necessary black mark against the car for what may just be cosmetic damage.
What's actually bent underneath the panels?
![]() 03/26/2014 at 14:29 |

Perfectly reasonable reaction, I'm so sorry for your loss.

I work at a Mercedes dealer (ex tech, current parts guy) Parts alone with employee discount is not worth it unfortunately. I doesn't look like much but i promise it is much worse.
![]() 03/26/2014 at 14:30 |

It is much worse than it looks unfortunately . I work at a Mercedes dealer (ex tech current parts guy) and even at employee cost, it is not worth it. :(

It is much worse than it looks buddy. I work at a Mercedes dealer (ex tech current parts guy) and even at employee pricing, the things that are damaged is not worth it. That is life buddy, even as a tech with discount on prices.

I mashed the radiator into the fan on the W-123 twice. That was two totaled hoods. two radiators, two totaled fender skins (first time), cracked thermostat housing, water pump, and motor mounts (also first time), and a lot of miscellaneous cracking up. I have a pretty good idea how bad it is - but I'd deduce from what you say that W-210 and contemporary parts are still much too high compared with where W-123 parts are, used.
I don't get why Benz favor the low-bumper setup so much, it makes for a lot of trashed radiator incidents where the front bumper does fuck all to prevent it.

core support is pushed way back, need upper and lower
Condenser
Radiator
P/S cooler and lines
multiple brackets
both headlight assemblies
hood latch mechanisms
grille
bumper guard
bumper cover w/ all trim
hood not repairable
paint and labor
$7800 including some junk yard parts pricing
i work at a Mercedes dealer (ex tech and current parts guy) Even at employee pricing, parts alone is not worth it

Sorry for your loss. Hope you can find something that makes you forget about it.

Sorry to hear about the Merc, :/ How is that much enough to write it off? It seems a little much really, but thinking about it the value of the car is probably not a whole lot. Argh.
Nice XC70 tho!
![]() 03/26/2014 at 14:43 |

thanks buddy :(
![]() 03/26/2014 at 14:45 |

exactly sir, that is what I noticed as the core support was pushed back. I have no clue why they did that.
I work at a Mercedes dealer (ex tech current parts) even with a discount, parts alone does not make it worth it.

You awesome Opponauts are what keep me sane.
...and my wife once she gets to 'Murica with me :]
![]() 03/26/2014 at 14:48 |

yeah it's a lot worse than it looks. i work at a merc dealer and just parts alone is not worth it. My dealer also sells Volvo and as an ex master tech and current parts guy, i think that is the direction i'm going towards

Bummer. Doable if you find a parts car in the scrapyard and do all the bits yourself, but time-consuming and fiddly.
Over here, using scrapyard parts:
Bonnet: £50
Radiator: £25
PS cooler and lines: £20
Condenser: £25
Both headlights: £60
Bonnet latch: £5
Whole front clip: £40
Odd brackets and whatnot: £20
Provided you manage to find a white one so you don't need to repaint it, £245 give or take for pricing. Lets say £300 tops.
Not sure what the actual structure is like below the bonnet though. When I pranged the BMW I bent the slam-panel where the bonnet latches to, but that just unbolts from the outriggers so I just bought another from the scrapyard. Not sure whether you're as lucky :S
If you can't find a white one in a scrapyard that's when the money starts pouring out. Paying someone to paint panels is bloody expensive :S

I guess if a car is old enough and its total value is low enough, anything can be a "total loss."
Sorry to hear it, man. My condolences.

I was under the impression it was a Volvo dealer that also sold Mercs, AM's, the lot.
I bet you have hella experience with them then. Good combination
![]() 03/26/2014 at 15:09 |

well that is not to bad comparing numbers, but time lol, the time is what is not available here :] Dang dude, I need to mover over there lol. Any room over there for a dealership Parts specialist?
![]() 03/26/2014 at 15:11 |

Thanks buddy. Yeah that is how the treat it basically, cars value/repair bill
![]() 03/26/2014 at 15:21 |

Depending on how far down the rabbit hole I go I might need one myself :)
Plenty of dealers over in Crawley though. Jag, Vauxhall, Honda, Mazda. Not seen a Mercedes one though :S

lol good to know buddy :]
![]() 03/26/2014 at 17:01 |

Yeah, we sell and service Aston, Lotus, Volvo, and Mercs. I was a tech here for a long while before coming to the parts department. They all have their things but all just cars at the end of the day :]
![]() 03/26/2014 at 17:08 |

Yeah. You said lotus, any in stock? I looked in your website a while back when you posted it, but the inventory was not updated as you mentioned.

we have one Evora that got traded in but I'm not sure If we are going to put it on sale (out of state sale). We do have a red 2002 Esprit V8 on our lot but not on the website. Mostly we have a bunch of 2012 and 2013's that are yet to be sold with huge red tag prices.

Ah darn. An Espirit would do nicely, but out of my bracket ha. How often do you stumble upon Exige S's? Thats what I would love to have
